New Year, New Beginning.

With the beginning of the new year I have decided to chronicle my journey to financial independence online for the world to see.  I made my first stock purchases in the last days of December, 2013 when I injected almost $8,000 into eight different dividend paying stocks.  My goal is to invest at least $1,000 every month into whichever dividend stock I feel provides the highest value at the time and share with you my journey to financial freedom.  My portfolio is currently:

Portfolio as of January 2014

This results in a forward yearly dividend payout of $363.81.  In January a total of two stocks in my portfolio paid dividends, they include:

PSEC: $11.03
CHK: $3.94

The final tally for dividends earned in
January 2014 was $14.97.  It might
not seem like much but we all have
to start from the beginning.

This covered 0.671% of my total spending for the month.  If you pull out your magnifying glass you can almost see the tiny green bar.

Hopefully this is the start of a long and rewarding journey.  I do not know if anyone will ever actually read this blog but maybe the process of writing about my personal finance and investment ideas will keep me motivated and on the path to financial independence.

Take care and have a lovely weekend.

    1. I've got to win a prize for that, right? :)

Do you have a dividends received or forward 12-month dividend goal 2014?

    2. W2R,

You won the eternal gratitude of a dividend investing dinosaur. You are among only a handful of people on this planet with that prize, you should be proud sir because you earned it.

I think you nailed the topic of my next blog post! Goals and Dreams for 2014.

  3. Congratulations on starting your journey. I am starting up mine like you in 2014. I plan on buying PM, CVX, and KO in my Roth account. My plan is to max out the Roth IRA with dividend stocks and putting away min of 500 into a taxable account and buy more dividend stocks. I might start up a blog as well. We can keep each other motivated. Anyway good luck. I'll be bookmarking your blog.

  4. Richie,

Thank you for stopping by! I think PM, CVX, and KO are very solid choices for your Roth. All three are also cheap right now compared to their 52 week highs. It's a funny thing hoping a stock price gets cheaper so we can buy more shares and make more money in the long run.

Starting a blog to track the process is also a great idea. Nothing like this awesome community to help you stay motivated.

The progress starts off a bit slow, but that snowball eventually starts rolling. And then it's look out below! :)

    Keep it up!

    Best wishes.

Thank you so much for stopping in! You're right it does start out a little bit slow, but it also gives me that much more of a reason to look forward to my next paycheck. It's pretty awesome to have a hobby that pays off so much in the end. Your blog is extremely inspiring and I hope to one day be able to look back and see gains like you have made.

Take care and thank you again for sharing your journey.

  9. I know exactly where you're coming from in regards to looking for that little green bar. Although mine's a little red line. I should probably change the color on that one since it's a good thing. Congrats on getting started with DGI and towards FI. I look forward to following along.

    1. When I first created the graph excel defaulted to the red bar for my dividend income. I totally agree with changing it to green, as seeing a growing green bar is sort of a small moral boost in itself.
